Pieces of Pi

Pi is one of the most fascinating numbers in the world. It is the most common example of an irrational number, a number that cannot be expressed exactly as a ratio of two integers. When written as a number, the digits of pi never repeat and never end.

Pi is approximately equal to 3.14159. Many people use the rational number 22/7 to approximate pi as well.

Pi, symbolized by the Greek letter

pi/4 = 1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9 - ....
